Many more children die before they can celebrate their first birthday. In fact, every 24 hours about 35,000 children die of preventable diseases. The problem of child labour is international in scope. It is a result of poverty, the lake of political commitment to end it, and weak legal and monitoring mechanisms. There is hardly any product in India, which has no child labour behind it.Be it locks, carpet, bangles, bricks, match -boxes and crackers. Their childhood is spent labouring in dangerous and harsh working conditions. Thousands of children are homeless or living in inadequate living conditions. Thousand others are displaced in the name of development and progress. A child on the streets encounters violence on a daily basis, often at the hands of the police, also from older children and psychologically disturbed street adults. A street child tends to choose a criminal lifestyle.
